BENSONHURST - The summer program at P.S. 227 in Bensonhurst shows students who need some extra help that learning can be fun. Supporting the hands-on teaching method is an army of counselors who maintain an open-door policy and push for openness with the students. About 100 students from six schools are enrolled in the program.
It fosters one-on-one attention, with classes having no more than 15 students. One student said that while they were discouraged after failing one class, having a second chance at summer school makes them feel better.
