The Research and Testing Institute for Brewing in Berlin (VLB) has released the 3rd International English edition of 'Technology Brewing And Malting' by Wolfgang Kunze. The first edition German edition of the book was published in 1961. 'The technology of brewing and malting has changed so much during the last decade that we have decided to do an entire update, and a new translation,' says Olaf Hendel, head of VLB's publishing department.
The book includes eleven chapters, covering raw materials and malt production through finished beer and waste disposal. According to VLB, the book has become a standard reference for brewers and maltsters around the world. 'Countless brewers and maltsters have reaped the benefit of its clear and thorough presentation on their way into and through the professional practice,' says Hendel. 'No specialized brewing library, and no company in the brewer sector works without the 'Kunze.' More than 40,000 copies of this work have been sold.' The book underwent a revision in 1993, and the first international edition was published in 1996. A reprint followed in 1999.
